Osun Govt Trains Nurses, Midwives, Community Health workers

Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) organized a seven day training sessions for the Nurses, Midwives and Community Health workers across the State on Essential Newborn Care .
The workshop which was segmented into two sections was flagged off by the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Board Dr. Oluwole Fabiyi, at Galaxy Hotel, Conference Room ,along Osogbo West bye pass, Ring road, Osogbo.
Dr. Fabiyi in his welcome address, stated that training healthcare workers is part of measures put in place by the Ademola Adeleke led government to promote quality and accessible health care for the residents.
The workshop which drew participants from different Primary Health Care facilities in the state had nurses, midwives ,community Health officers and community health extension workers on ground for the intensive capacity building training.
Dr. Fabiyi appreciated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Federal Ministry of Health and UNICEF, for their supports for the training .
Representative of the UNICEF, Mrs. Elohor Micheal-Ezeh in her remarks, admonished the participants to replicate the knowledge acquired in the workshop to their fellow officers in their respective healthcare centres.
Professor Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, a consultant paediatrician/neonatologists at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH),Ile-ife at the well attended seven day training sessions donated Artificial Resuscitator to all the participants.
The Director of Medical Services and Disease Control, Osun State Primary Health Care Development who was also the Coordinator of the programme,Dr Oluyemi Ogundun urged health care workers across the thirty Local Governments in the state to work assiduously in their various Primary Health Care Centers so as to complement government’s support in the Health Sector
The seven day training workshop which was divided into two segments had four days devoted to the training of Nurses and Midwives on full Essential newborn care while the remaining three days centred on Modified Essential newborn care for Community Health Extension Workers.
