A CONCERNED MEMBER OF ADC CONDEMNS ACTION OF THE SCREENING PARTY COMMITTEE, CALLS FOR RECONSIDERATION OF THE CONSTITUENCY 2 ASPIRANT

— Condemnation of the Akure South Local Government ADC Screening Committee’s Actions

By The NewsPostage

One of the members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in “ward 10” Akure South local government, Ondo State, Hon. Adebayo Iyanu has condemned the action being taken by the screening party committee during the party screening exercise of the aspirants vying for the house assembly seat at the coming 2027 Ondo State House of Assembly elections.

In a statement released on Tuesday 13, 2026 by Hon. Iyanu Adebayo said, the recent actions taken by the Akure South Local Government African Democratic Congress (ADC) screening committee had raised serious concerns about fairness, transparency, and respect for the democratic process. By importing an aspirant from Akure South Local Government Constituency 1 to contest in Constituency 2.

He said the action had sent Shockwaves through the party’s membership saying the committee has not only undermined the integrity of the party but has also disrespected the aspirations and rights of all members within Constituency 2, who have been committed to the ideals and objectives of the party.

His words,  “A Disgraceful Decision”,

“The decision to disqualify an original aspirant in Constituency 2 on grounds of insufficient documentation and then replace him with an aspirant still registered in Constituency 1 is tantamount to a slap in the face to dedicated members of the ADC in Constituency 2. The original candidate, who was disqualified based on the committee’s criteria, should have been given the opportunity to address any shortcomings in his documentation. Instead, the committee chose to sidestep due process and import a candidate who, at the time of screening, was still a registered voter in another constituency”.

“This decision not only raises ethical questions but also casts a shadow on the screening committee’s commitment to fostering democracy within the party. The lack of consultation with stakeholders in Constituency 2 is appalling. A meeting to discuss the situation and seek a collective solution could have been a more prudent approach, promoting unity and collaboration within the party rather than fostering division and resentment”.

The Implications of this Action

“The implications of this decision extend far beyond the immediate candidates involved. By allowing an aspirant who does not meet the residency requirements to contest in Constituency 2, the screening committee jeopardizes the electoral process and the faith of the constituents in their leadership. The very essence of democracy lies in representation, and by sidestepping these fundamental principles, the committee risks alienating the grassroots members who form the backbone of the ADC”.

“Moreover, the imported aspirant’s situation raises additional issues regarding voter eligibility. As of now, he lacks a permanent voter’s card (PVC) for any of the five electoral wards that constitute Constituency 2, which raises questions about his commitment to the constituency and the interests of its residents. If he has indeed hurriedly transferred his voter registration, he will still face delays in obtaining a PVC until December, further complicating his candidacy”.

Lack of Consultation and Communication

“In a situation where the original candidate was disqualified, the logical and ethical course of action would have been to convene a meeting of all stakeholders in Constituency 2. Engaging in dialogue would have allowed the committee to explore viable solutions and perhaps identify a new candidate from within the constituency. By ignoring this step and opting for an outsider, the screening committee has disregarded the input and feelings of local party members, leading to feelings of disenfranchisement and resentment”.

A Call for Accountability

“This situation demands accountability from the Akure South Local Government ADC screening committee. The actions taken are not only detrimental to the party’s image but also undermine the democratic rights of the constituency’s voters. It is imperative for the committee to reconsider its approach and engage with the members of Constituency 2 to ensure that their voices are heard and respected”.

“The ADC must recommit itself to the principles of democracy, transparency, and inclusiveness. The party’s leadership should recognize that the strength of the ADC lies in its grassroots members, and any attempt to sideline their interests will only lead to disillusionment and disengagement”.

Conclusion

“In closing, the actions of the Akure South Local Government ADC screening committee must be condemned. It is essential for the party to rectify this situation by reinstating the original candidate for Constituency 2 or, at the very least, holding a meeting with all stakeholders in Constituency 2 to discuss the way forward. Only through transparent and collaborative decision-making can the ADC hope to maintain the trust and support of its members, ensuring a united front as it approaches the upcoming elections”.
