Ipesi-Akoko Obaship: Prince Solagbade Amodeni Clarifies Selection Process, Insists on Quality Candidate

An appeal has been made to all contenders for the stool of Olupesi to exercise patience, as the leadership of the Ruling House is dedicated to selecting the most deserving Prince among those involved.

All contenders were called upon to exercise patience and trust in the diligent efforts of the Ruling House as it’s leadership is deeply committed to a thorough and fair selection process, ensuring that the best among the noble Princes will ascend to this prestigious position.

In an exclusive interview with DEMOCRAT NEWS Magazine Akure, Prince Solagbade Amodeni, a former Executive Local Government Chairman and two-term Commissioner in Ondo State, and the Head of the Okedofin Ruling House in Ipesi clarified the process concerning the vacant stool of Olupesi of Ipesi-Akoko as he addressed recent agitations from contenders vying for the position.

Prince Amodeni explained that several factors contributed to the prolonged vacuum in the stool, including custom and tradition, litigations, and the need for a period of mourning and accountability after the late Oba’s passing. He emphasized that the community’s customs and traditions require a thorough process to ensure the right person occupies the stool.

Regarding the selection process, Prince Amodeni stated that the leadership of the Ruling House has not ratified any candidate’s nomination. He explained that a stakeholders’ meeting was convened, and a panel was set up to review the credentials of interested princes. The panel consists of Barr. Tunde Atere, Hon. Samuel Pelemo, and Dr. Balogun.

Prince Amodeni reiterated that he is not interested in becoming the Oba, emphasizing his commitment to investing in the community and uplifting its people. He highlighted his contributions to the community, including providing electricity, influencing road construction, facilitation of employment to people, busary to students and recently donating computers, trophies, and medals to schools just to mention a few.

The next step in the selection process involves conducting a final interview with the aspirants and selecting the best candidate. Prince Amodeni stressed that the chosen Oba must be literate, capable of effective communication, and able to contribute to discussions at the local and state government levels.

In his message to the contenders and the people of Ipesi, Prince Amodeni appealed for patience and caution in the process. He warned against attempts to rush the selection, emphasizing that the best, educated, and exposed prince will be chosen for the Olupesi of Ipesi-Akoko.
